What version of which Operating System are you using? Have you already got an installed version of OpenOffice that you are trying to upgrade? On some OS's there's a thing called the Quickstarter. In Windows, if the Quickstarter is running there will be an OOo icon for it in the System Tray. Right click on it and choose Exit. The point is that a running Quickstarter will prevent installation of a new version of OpenOffice so it needs to be terminated. Not sure about the "multi user networks ..." part of the message. Have you got OOo installed on a server and are you trying to upgrade that? Is one of your users running OOo? Same comments about Quickstarter probably apply.
