According to Bing.com, MS' own search site, MS' total revenue is
expected to be $US 64.9B-$US 66.4B, while operating income (read
expenses) is expected to be in the
range of $US 24.4B-$US 25.5B for the fiscal year ending June 30,
2009. Do the math!
That comes out to a profit of $US 40.5B- $US 40.9B and is
approximately 166% to 160% ROI, respectively. So donate you money to
MS, *or*... use OOo for free.
I know which path I choose.

MS is declaring that they have been loosing profit for 6 months
or more. Profits, after all expenses, of more that 4-6 billion
US Dollars a year is what they are complaining about. Not enough
for them. Remember this profit is after you figure in all R&D,
bonuses, stock payouts, and such.
In today's economy, a company that large would beg, plead, and
do almost anything to have 1/2 to 1 Billion in profit. But MS
is complaining that their profit is down to 4 - 6 times that figure.
So yes. Let MS complain. See what they do when they get down
to $1 billion or less in profit. There have been several articles
in the past few months that describe MS's attempt to go into the
open source field, not just ODF's field of interest.
Software like OpenOffice.org is eating into their profit margins
and that is great. Now we just have to make sure MS does not try
to mess with OOo's success, above board or below in the slime that
seems to cover MS's public rep. all the time.
I wonder when they will start selling Win7 with TV and Print ads?
They will need to admit that Vista was a mistake and bad system
to try to get businesses to spend, spend, spend, so they can sell
Win7 in these troubled times.
If OOo can, with reasonable facility, do the things that you as a user need
an office suite to do, then you have sufficient reason to install OOo,
rather than paying for Microsoft Office....

That is why I have been using OOo since the 1.x days.
I hate MS's blah,blah,blah.
The only thing I have to use is their OS and some free
programs that they decided not to charge for, like everything else
they do.
But some groups are working on an open source Windows,
then maybe we will not need MS's OSs in a few years.
Or get some people to make running Windows software
easier on Linux, and people will go over to it even faster.
