I am using Open Office 3.1.0 (build 9399)
Java version is: 1.6.0_15
I am using a PC with Vista 32
I am very new to Open Office and Base.

This is going to be rather long; sorry, but I am confused!

Cannot change date format and have it 'stick'; also cannot find a
suitable date format.
The Table has 11 fields, the Date field is number 3.
Field type is DATE [DATE]

When I start the process to change the Date format, I open the Table
in Edit mode.

1. Select Date field, bottom pane shows:
        Entry Required - No
        Default Value - blank
Format Example - 01/01/00 (has faint grey characters)

2. Click on button to right of 'Format Example'; This brings up the
"Field Format" window.

3. Under Category select DATE in FORMAT pane.
Select: 31. Dec. 1999. At the bottom of this window the
format code is: D. MMM. YYYY.
(note Language selection is: English (USA)
        Click OK at the bottom.

4. Back to bottom Pane (#1 above.)
Format example is: 1. Jan. 1900 (faint grey characters).

5. Top Menu Bar- File/Close/ Save changes-yes

6. Reload oo and Base; open Table in non-edit mode. Entered date in
desired format: 10. Aug. 2009.

7. Opened Form, but date field has a format of DD/MM/YY.

8. Switch Form to edit mode.

9. Select field (field only not label), right click, select CONTROL
Properties: Date Field window comes up, select "Date Format".
Cannot find the desired format from the List Window.
I need DD/MMM/YYYY (it is most important the Month use
letters to avoid any confusion)
        However, I selected DD/MM/YYYY.

10. Went to Table, The date field shows 10. Aug. 2009.
The Form Date field shows 10/08/2009.

11. Exited open office, saving changes.

12. Reopened Base, the Date field in the Table date field shows
10/08/09; why did I lose my changes?
The Form Date field shows 10/08/2009.

I must have a date format where the months are displayed as 3
letters.

13. I note in Table--Edit mode, bottom pane.
The Date format example has changed back to 01/01/00 WHY

Again, my apologies for such a long 'sad story'

John.
