Hi, If need be, I can post screenshots for this query but it's simple enough to describe I don't think it will be necessary. Should anyone think it would be useful, let me know and I'll go ahead and upload them to a site for download.
System: XP SP3+, OO.o 3.1.1 (and prior versions I've had). Reference: For this post, I'm using the following page: http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp Setup: Starting at "CSS Tutorial", drag downward all the way to nearly the end; it's not important how far as long as it's say over half the page. I went to, and included, the line "The PHP Certificate documents your knowledge of PHP and SQL (MySQL)." Problem in Writer: When I copy/paste that part of a web page into Write, the following occurs in Print Layout: -- All text is misaligned, moved to the left about 2 1/2 to 3 inches using the top ruler. Switching to Web Layout, then all is OK but of course there can be no page numbers, page length, etc. in that mode. -- There are no graphics, only some sort of placeholder. If I click the image placeholder, I get a message that the "specified path does not exist". Apparently, if I want those images to be part of the Writer document, I have to separately copy/paste each one into my document. BUT, as much as I abhor comparing Writer to Word, if I do the exact same thing with Word, in Print Layout, I get: -- An accurate reproduction of the web page, including graphics. The copy/paste got the text and images and pasted them into the document. -- No text misalignment off the page, no need to use Web Layout to see it properly, and no need to separately acquire the images that are part of the page. It's all right there, a nearly perfect reproduction of the part of the web page I selected, copied and pasted into Word and into Writer above. ===================== If that's not clear enough, or if you want to see screenshots, just ask. Happy to oblige. My questions are: -- HOW do I get Writer to include the graphics in the copy paste operation? -- HOW do I get Writer to place the text properly when it's pasted into Print Layout? I've had this issue through the last three revs at least, and it seems that one time I got it to work but I'm not positive of that. I've visited, checked and rechecked the options until I'm blue in the face looking for an improper or conflicthing setting somehow but I can't find it. This is one of a couple of roadblocks keeping me from being able to dispose of MS Office. I create a lot of cheat-sheets and instructional type pages from web sites so I don't have to go online to look them up; it's just faster and more convenient, plus allows me to remove parts that might be irrelevant and add my own notes where I need them. I use the capability often on things ranging from animal care to home repair to computer programs and it's very useful to me. Anyone that can assist me in getting this set up so it only takes one paste into Writer to get text and images will not only have my eternal gratitude, but also a promist that THIS time I'll be sure to save it to where I won't lose it again! Thanks for any advice/leads you may be able to provide. I'm probably just missing something very simple in the Options areas but ... darned if I know what it is!
