Thanks Harold for your reply.

1. Change Open/Save options didn't help.

2. The installation is from openoffice repository (unfortunately Ubuntu repository provides 3.0 only) (repository path: http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu).

I would appreciate advice regarding which repository would be best here.

Greetings,

Just installed OO-3.1 on Ubuntu (debian). Unicode File names are are no longer available. Any idea?

Two possibilities I can think of.

  1. In, say, Writer, there's an option "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs".
The option is a check box at
     Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>General>Open/Save dialogs. Try
changing the selection there. You'll need to stop the
Quickstarter, run Writer, change the option, close Writer and then
     re-start the Quickstarter.
  2. The Ubuntu folk modify OpenOffice for the version they supply in
their "native" repository. I don't know whether you installed the
one from the Add Packages menu or the one you got when you
downloaded it from the OOo web site. Whichever you have, try the
other. The OOo version is at
     http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US

If neither of these works, come back here with details and we'll have another think.
