You didn't say what your operating system was, so I'll assume it's XP.
Had you told us, I could give you exact instructions, but since you
didn't, this should come close:

Go to http://www.openoffice.org/ and click on "I want to download Open
Office".

A little green window pop in underneath that, which says "Download Now".

Click Download Now.

If you get a little yellow ribbon comes up at the top of the window that
says "To help protect your security .... Click here for options..",
click it, and choose "downoad file" from the choices.

Then you should get a download box, or a Save box, that lets you tell it
where to save the file to. Choose a folder for the download to go to,
and click OK. Give it a few seconds to work, and if any other
instructions show up, do as they request.
The download will start and complete. It takes awhile, so don't get
overanxious. Open Office is a fairly large file and takes time to
download. A LOT of time if you happen to be on dialup instead of DSL.
IF for some reason the download doesn't start, go all the way to the
bottom of that same page and read the part titled "Any Problems"? and
follow those directions.

If this isn't any help, then give more information about your computer
system. Try reading here for help on that:
