You're referring to what happens when you double-click something
attached to an e-mail, right? What's happened is that the "file
association" that used to identify OOo as the default program for
opening a file of that type has been broken -- maybe one that the e-mail
client manages, or maybe the operating system's association. Try doing a
right click on the attachment's name or icon. That should get you to a
dialog where you can browse to the appropriate component of OOo. If you
select the option to always use this program for this filetype, you
should only have to do this once for each type of file (at least until
you install something else that takes over the filetype again).
