Well, I don't think you mentioned which version of OO.o - but
if you are using Version 3.1 or better you could look at the MySQL
Connector 1.0 extension, found here:
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/mysql_connector
This uses the native MySQL C++ connector code, which requires then no
3rd party drivers - no ODBC, no JDBC.
If you want to stay with JDBC then:
Which version of Java are you using and with which version of OO.o/OS?
