You do not say what operating system and the like that would be helpful, but I am guessing Windows XP. Is this a laptop or desktop? The reason I ask is that running XP, sp3 on a laptop here from time to time I see the same type problems. I found that the computer was over heating. Giving it a good cleaning solved most to the problem, going from 528 megs of memory 2 gigs has also helped reduce the problem.
