the feature in Open Office
to insert horizontal lines in documents by typing three or more identical
characters from this list -
minus,
underscore,
equals,
asterisk,
tilde (sometimes called swung dash),
hash mark,
- at the beginning of a line and then press Enter which would insert a
horizontal line across
the
page between the set margins. Each key gave a different line style.
When I tried to this recently it did not work. I do not know if it is
missing in the 3.1.0 version
or if I have accidentally changed some setting somewhere which has stopped
this feature.
Can anyone please help.

Got to the "Options" tab of the "Tools>AutoCorrect Options ..." menu.
There are two columns, labelled "[M]" and [T]". Under the "[T]" column
there's an option "Apply border". Make sure this is ticked (checked) to
invoke the behaviour you want.
