I assume you're running Windows. If so, look in your Start menu for an OpenOffice.org & icons. You can use the icons to start the various OpenOffice.org components. The icon on your desktop may be the installation folder, which you can delete after installation.
If you've successfully installed OOo but it's now silently refusing to start when you click one of the Start menu icons James mentioned, I've usually found that there's an "orphan" instance of the soffice.bin process. If that's the case, you can either end that process from the Task Manager (which will also close any related soffice.exe processes), or do a system restart. You may have three different icons on your desktop -- the downloaded file, the unpacked installation files, and an icon that opens OOo and gives you buttons for each of the components. Once the installation has been completed, it is safe to delete the first two, though I generally keep the downloaded file someplace in case a reinstallation is needed.
