Include the bullet style(s) that you need in your template definition.

Create a numbering style with the type of bullet you want to use.
Then create paragraph styles that correspond to the layout you want to
use --- remembering to put the numbering style in the paragraph.

You need to save the paragraph and numbering styles in a new template,
and set that new template up s your default, when importing the
documents.
