Had you previously saved the paper somewhere (or more than one place)?
If so, that may be your best bet for this instance -- I don't know why
the auto-recovery didn't happen, though. But since it didn't, anything
that had not been explicitly saved is probably lost. :-( You can set
the auto-recovery interval shorter, and select to always save backup
copies, in Tools > Options, Load/Save, General.
