Hi Leslie, on windows OOo can play everything that windows natively can play. So you need to install codecs that support your mp4 files. I suggest "ffdshow tryouts", you can google that. VLC Media Player is supporting your files since it has most of the codecs build in. OOo plans to move in that direction but there is a minefield of license issues. Most of the codecs are full of patents so just implementing them in open source does not make it legal to distribute that code....

Hi All, Have been following these digests and find them immensely useful. Need your help here. I have some home made MP4 files (and also AVI). However, when I try to insert them as Movies into a slide show I get the error "The format of the selected file is not supported". Some MP4 files were originally downloaded from youTube but even those wont work. All these files are running comfortably in VLC Media player Portable v 1.1.1 I am using OpenOffice.org Portable 3.0.1 from Sun Microsystems, and running Windows Vista on my Toshiba Satellite L510 laptop (2GB RAM). Can anyone help? I did try searching the FAQs but got completely lost.
