Yes, your ideas is easier.
Pricilla:
If you are going to try what GSR suggested, move the presentation
file back to its original forlder. Make sure all the photos are present
in their slides. Then use Edit > Links > break link. You can do this
for each link listed, or you can highlight all the links you want
removed and then click "break link".
