Whatever the source and nature of the flaw that occurred was temporary and will remain a mystery. Even even after I was able to connect and initiate the download using the oo update, the download froze after 43% until I paused and then resumed it. IAC, the installation went without a hitch and aside from Windows (which I'm using less and less), I can handle the same files using OpenSuse, Sabayon and Super OS (depending on the computer), all of which are more reliable than M$'s OS.
