Did you download from http://www.openoffice.org/ ?
One way of checking the integrity of the file is by checking the MD5
checksum found at http://download.openoffice.org/md5sums/index.html you
will need to select the version you have and use the instructions on
that page. An alternative is to download by bittorrent, where the files
are checked as they are downloaded : http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/
If you were to send some further information as to what exactly you
downloaded and what operating system/version you are using ( I suspect
some version of Windows) and what error messages were produced, some of
the volunteers here may be able to help you avoid such a problem again.
