Hello, I appreciate your speedy response. However I am not clear
whether this will read a CD that is Microsoft formatted?!??!
THanks again,

Julie, there are many things that you could mean by "Microsoft formated
CD":
So, check the items below and see if it fits what you mean:
1) your CD has been created on a machine where Windows run
2) your CD includes files created with Microsoft Office (on a machine
where Windows run)
3) your CD includes files created with Microsoft Office but you don't
know on which type of machine
In any case, what matters is not so much the three above items than the
three following ones:
a) Try to put the CD on you Apple machine and see if it is properly
displayed in the Finder
b) Try then to see whether you have "visual" access to the CD contents
(can you see the files icons ?)
c) Do the files names end in ".doc" or ".xls" or ".ppt" ?
If your answer is yes to a), b), and c) then there are 99.99% chances
that OpenOffice will be able to open your CD files, totally normally
and will allow you to edit their contents or print them out.
Your should be careful though, OpenOffice on Mac OX (Tiger) may look
harder to use that Microsoft Office (either version X or version 2004).
You may want to use a version that is "nice" to beginning users and
that version is (as was mentioned in another answer) : NeoOffice/J. The
name looks weird but the application is OpenOffice with a nicer OSX
look. You can find it at:

Don't hesitate if you have any other questions.
