That gave me some insight and it's now  fixed, by increasing the tab stop
value.  To explain, as this might help some other reader facing the same
issue; the default tab stop was 12.7 mm (in my case). That value would be
perfect until the extra digit of the ten cames along (remember; my problem
starts at 2.2.10) at that time the zero itself would cross the tab limit
that is originally set for the first letter of the title. So what OOo did
was to push the whole title into the next available tab stop marked by a
very tiny marker on the ruler at the top of the page. When I increased the
numbering toolbar tab value the extra space accomodated the zero nicely and
all the titles got aligned again. I expect the issue to repeat itself once
the numbering reaches a 3 digits (a 100) although it would be very unlikely
to happen but then the solution would be the same.
