Hi Lisa:

As other volunteers on the list have commented, the OpenOffice suite is free
and you shouldn't have had to pay more than a small handling charge if, for
example, you got a CD. However, it's another comment in your message for help
that intrigues me, namely that you got OpenOffice to handle photos. Now, as
Sigrid has already commented, OpenOffice will handle photos in the same sense
that, say, Microsoft Office will, that is, you can use the programs to put
together a document which includes one or more photographs, but it is not a
program like Picasa, for sorting and sharing photos, or like Photoshop or Gimp,
for editing them and changing the format.

But what interests me is that we have had a number of inquiries on the list
recently about OpenOffice, in which people have been wondering how to use it
for photos, videos and the like, and I wonder if you would be willing to take
the time to tell us how you came to look at OpenOffice for this purpose. Who
suggested that OpenOffice might be able to open your photos (what format are
they, by the way?), and how did you find the site where you purchased the
program. Did the site have indications that it could be used for handling
pictures and/or video?

Someone has obviously got the wrong idea about OpenOffice, and it would be very
useful to people such as yourself if we could get to the bottom of why people
are choosing OpenOffice for this purpose.

And on a final note, since you have OpenOffice on your computer now, why not
give it a try? It's as easy to use as Microsoft Office, your documents will
normally take up only a fraction of the space, you can exchange them with your
friends and other contacts who may use Microsoft Office if you save them in
Office format, but most importantly, OpenOffice is free when it comes time to
upgrade. You can always have the latest version simply by downloading it. So
stick with us a while, and see if you don't get hooked on OpenOffice.
