I have some suggestions.
Have you removed any fonts from your machine, or changed the font you
are using in this document? The font may not contain the characters you
require.
If these suggestions do not maych your problem, then please reply with
the Operating system you are using, and the version of OpenOffice you
are running and someone may be able to help with some other suggestions
