I have read a lot of words about this topic here... this here topic.

Firstly the "Save As..." menu calls the operating system (or is it the window 
manager) dialogue box by default.

Secondly it may be possible, under "Tools - Options - OpenOffice.org - 
General" to change to "use OpenOffice.org dialogues" to do this job which 
does not have the offending tickbox / checkbox. At least this option was 
there under OO.o 2.x in Windows IIRC.
