I would guess that your lucida font is screwed up -- when you run an
ms office app does it squawk about fonts at start up?
You might want to try a font fixing utility (font box sticks in my
mind as a good one -- but I haven't run it under X) and then try the
install again (or just remove lucida from your system -- but I would
guess that might screw up things that use lucida as a default font.
You also might want to take a look at neo office/j (http://
www.neooffice.org/) -- This is a much more mac like version of
OpenOffice and It is a much easier install.
