The new version can read files written by previous versions, going
*way* back, so something else is happening here. My guess is that
your file association was not updated to the new version, but is
still trying to find the old one. If that's it, you need to fix that
however your operating system manages that. In general, you can
right-click on one of your .odt files, choose Open With, and browse
to the current location of swriter.exe, then select the option to
always use this program for these files. A similar processcan be
used for any of the other ODF filetypes. You also may need to set
this association for e-mail attachments, sometimes these programs
manage their own version of the associations.
