To output a PDF similar to the Corel pre-press option, don't mark any of
those options, and make sure that above them in the same window
"Lossless compression" is selected.

I don't believe that there is such a thing like a spectrum of software.
Different software appeals to different people and different use cases.
OOo Draw for me is way easier to use than Corel and more than enough for
my needs. Other people with experience in Corel can find it easier, and
it certainly has tons of features that OOo Draw lacks.
Your environment also plays a role on your software selection, if you
are going to exchange data with people using Illustrator, it may be sane
to use the same program. Or maybe Illustrator price is bigger than the
cost of the problems that having different formats bring and OOo is the
wise choice. Or maybe there is a nice format like SVG that can be used
to share the content. Or anything.
I can't make a case for you, you'd better study it carefully or just
stick to what you know.

Sure. But maybe not for all. It's impossible for anyone with a deep
knowledge of how you use Corel Draw to answer that question.
What I am trying to say is that we can't answer that kind of wide
questions, I'm afraid but you should look into them yourself.
BTW, you should probably check InkScape too. It's another open-source
vector drawing program that has some very nice features that Draw lacks
(but lacks some others like multi-page support).
