Yes, go Insert -> Object-> Formula
A window will appear at the bottom of the Writer Window.
That is where you can enter the formula thusly:
8 over 2 = 4
8 %OMEGA ;shows 8 and the ohms symbol
8/2=4 ; different from 8 over 2 = 4, appears as shown here.
8m/s over 2s = 4 m/s ;will appear as it should with only one horizontal
line.
You can type the formula in the window and wait a few seconds
then it will show on the page.
Using {} symbols will not show on the page, but anything
inside them will.
N sub i will show the subscript i for the letter N
Some special characters are not so easy to find at first,
but putting the %(name) in the formula will display the
special character once you have established it (see %OMEGA above).
So, it is all available in OOo Writer.
