Hi,
I newly am working with open office 3.2.0. On another computer I created
all the documents I need I worked with Microsoft Word:MAC 1983-2001.
WhenI try to open these documents (doc or xls) open office tells me that
these are not winword97 documents and can't open them. what can I do?
thank you for a quick answer!
Aside - not to OP. Little MAC experience.
Hanna is not alone. Newer Microsoft Word versions do not support older DOC
versions on windows.
Older WinWord formats were a type of RTF, AFAIK some were plain text some were
a binary version. Does anyone know if this was the case with older MAC-Word
documents. If this was so then they _might_ be able to be opened as RTF
documents.
No older versions saved as MacWord were never RTF you needed to export
those to as RTF so that they were
readable in Windows or the other way round so MacWord read RTF, but not
all versions of doc. MacWord 6 was supposed to be
binary compatible, but I found that at least on my very very old LC PPC
a file word6 mac was not 100% compatible, especially if you
has images or tables inside. Text usually came OK.
There is a link to a French maker of file translator that runs on
Windows and makes older Mac files availabe to Windows.
http://www.macdisk.com/msworden.php
and another by DataVIZ (which I had)
http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/
does the same. DataVIZ has the "right" to use the MS binary formats so
there translators should work quite well.

Alternatively there may be a third party converter Hanna can use[1]. Like a
Microsoft Word Document Viewer for MAC's with copy and paste.

PS just noticed that this word viewer does not seem to support any Microsoft
Word Doc formats.
