Hello, I recently purchased ur product, because it says I can use Access files.
Not sure if that is to create or just manipulate. Now do I have to HAVE the
program? Since it seems to me like from what the box says, I should be able to
open up a .mdb file and do what I need to. I only got the program since I
didn't have the 500 laying around that microsoft wants for it. Please let me
know ASAP!
Office Pro is a product marketed and sold by Cosmi, which uses
OpenOffice.org as its main product. Presumable you received some flavor
of OpenOffice.org 1.1.x.
I do not know all of the details, but you can do some database
manipulation and using with OOo 1.1.x, but you can't make a database
straight up.
In the new version OOo 2.0, due out later this year, there is a new Base
component that is still in its development. This is more like Access.
This is what I would suggest.
1) Contact Cosmi, from whom you bough Office Pro and see if they will
help you.
2) If you can download the latest stable version of OOo, 1.1.4 (It is
free) from http://www.openoffice.org, so that you know as many of the
bugs are worked out as possible.
3) Travel to http://documentation.openoffice.org and see what you can
find about the database function of OOo.
Another idea, if you are brave, is to download a beta version of OOo 2.0
from the web site and play around with the base component. The people
using it and testing it the better. Also, if you do this,
www.oooauthors.org could use some help with creating a database manual
that other users could access for free to complement their free software.
