Where are you seeing that? You should get the appropriate file type
when you download from www.openoffice.org.
Are you looking at the attachments on a digest version of the list? The
ezmlm mailing list handler uses that extension for the attached e-mails,
and that requires a MIME-enabled mail client to function. Many of the
people on this list use Thunderbird (free from Mozilla), which has this
capability and many more. And of course there are many others! Or your
current mail client may have an option to enable this kind of processing.
