I see no 'autotext icon' under Insert.

Perhaps you mean: View|Toolbars|Insert?
If that is the case, it is instantaneous for me.

Note: I did a parallel installation and use a fresh, new, user profile.
You don't need to do a parallel install; the -dev install will go into
/opt and use the ~/.ooo-dev folder.
Is known, but I have more DEV versions installed.
