Thanks - I actually found that after I'd posted. It's actually EASIER
and more intuitive than in Word 2007! All I need to do now is to find
out how to print a one-off label at different points in the sheet...
The quickest and easiest way is to copy and paste into a template page
for your particular label type. If you're stuck I have several in both
A4 and American Letter sizes that I created for tutorial purposes some
time ago.

Got it. It's on the Options Tab of the New Labels dialog box - you can
select the row number and column number for a single label....

Since I'm running both Windows and Linux in a dual boot configuration, I
have found that the easiest way to make up labels is to boot into
Windows and use Avery's free Label Pro software. I have always used
Avery labels so I never bothered learning how to make labels in either
MS Office or OpenOffice.org.
