Hello,
I'm just getting to grips with the spreadsheet, but there is one quirk I can't seem to sort out. Help, please! I want to edit an existing spreadheet. It was built in Excel and imported to Open Office. In Excel (and any other spreadsheet I have ever used) selecting a cell displays the cell's contents on the input line, which aids editting. For some reason with Open Office when I select a cell the input line remains blank. I can use the input line to over-write what is already there, but I can't see what is already there to edit it. Meanwhile the cell contents remains displayed normally in the cell itself. No doubt there is a "hide" switch somewhere, but I can't find it! So, please, what do I have to do to get a cell's existing contents to display in the input line?

What version of OOo are you using and what OS? This is a bizzare issue, and my first thought is that you should uninstall and reinstall.

Peter,

Thanks for the interest. Open Office 1.0.3 and Windows XP, both of which came pre-installed on the machine. Since my first message I've saved it as .sxc and the input line worked just as I expected in that version. It's just the .xls version that won't work. Good encouragement to stop using Excel, but odd nevertheless!

Regards,

Bob

Is there a special reason you use 1.0.3, like are you stuck with Win 95? OOo is currently at stable release 1.1.4. Perhaps upgrading would solve the problem. You can download it for free from the website.
