Dear No-op:

The SSD may well come with the screws, but if not, he might need to deal in a bit of hardware.

The SSD I used in my "Flivver" machine (read a low cost Rube Goldberg model that does very well for its old age and low cost) cost me all of $CDN 89.95 plus local taxes and made a real difference running F12, even with only 750 Mb. of RAM.

I have built a number of machines from scratch over the years, so 6-32 machine screws and a lot more hardware stuff (such as the SCSI and IDE cables I have pressed myself to suit custom needs and more) are only a part of it all.

My main machine runs on 4 physical SATA drives using them to handle the concurrent seek approach when booted in either XP or F13 64 bit.

I run a lot of Oo Draw, Gimp and many other diverse apps (Miro, Audacity, ABBYY Sprint as examples.)

I also have 3 scanners attached, although the SANE back end for my Microtek Scanmaker 9800XL does not work with the TMA1600 option. (That add-on is even very persnickety even in Win XP.) but to replace the whole unit would be worth about $C2500.00 - a bit pricey.

(All this in English, French and some Spanish.)

This evidently seems a trifle verbose, but the benefits are always in the details - and that also means the details of how they all interact.

Best Regards,

Bruce M.
