Dear Neil:

I have not seen this capability, as the colours involved can be far more
than what comes with Oo. Personally I have created a whole set of additional
custom colours, some custom matched to external samples and each with
special names.

To even start to track this, Oo would have to have all these colours
automatically logged in an internal colour database on the fly, based on
their hexadecimal code, combined with the colour mode being used.

This would have to be that extensive as much to track colours from the
Microsoft world as anything else, as their default colours are different
from Oo.

If someone wanted to do a big programming job and create a "noarch" add-on
to Calc or Oo to handle this, you might be lucky, but I wouldn't hold my
breath!

However if your real need could be resolved by automatically selecting the
last valid line in a sheet, or by specific recognition of one or more text
strings in a particular column, or any Boolean combination of these, that
would be much easier. This is likely if the existing colours were used to
represent some specific condition or conditions relating to the data.

Subject: [users] summing cells with different background colors

I want to get totals of how many cells have a particular background color.
Is this possible in Calc?
