Do you mean you copy 'original' to 'edit' and it restarts the numbering?
You get:
original
2.1
2.2
2.3
edit
1.1
1.2
1.3
but you want:
edit
2.1
2.2
2.3
In OOo Writer, you get modify the paragraph style to restart the
numbering from any number or you can continue the previous numbering.
