Why do you send the mail to the LIST (I read it), to my private

As a courtesy. The email address from which you posted
<[email protected]> is not subscribed. [See header
"Delivered-To: moderator".] I know you have been previously subscribed
(with a different address), but thought perhaps you may have
unsubscribed. I have learned (from people who have made far more
contributions to this list than I have) to handle questions from
unsubscribed users with the following courtesy: Reply to the list AND to
the private (From:) address, to make sure you see the reply; for added
assurance, I added your last known subscribed address. [I neglected the
final part of that protocol, the reminder the any replies should go to
the list - but then everything gets too complicated when a list accepts
posts from unsubscribed addresses.]

I can only second what Clayton proposed: fix a template the way
/you/ like it.
It was fixed, but I made a system update and have gotena new version
of OOo and now goten the last crap on the neck...
I'm sorry to hear that. I have had better luck with updates, so don't
have any idea how that happened.
Writer appears to be brain-dead about table geometry. That is mostly
(but not entirely) because the controls are laid out poorly. Clayton
gave some nice tips for setting up table defaults. But what if you
just want to lay out arbitrary tables easily? Writer does not appear
to support "easily", but it's not really too bad if you work through
the clumsy controls:
OOo has to learn vorm M$ Word. Even in the old days, with Winword 6.0
und e WfW 3.11 it was better... (18 years ago)
Well, I have a better paragon (WordPerfect, especially WP5), but IAC we
are where we are. I hope in time we can improve the interface in this
and other areas, but for now have to work with Writer as it is.
(A) Unfortunately, when you create ("Insert") a table, you are not
given a quick alignment option (that would obviate most of the
problems that come after). You just have to accept the following
4-step:
1. Create the table (name/rows/columns/format), then
2. Edit the table ([context menu: "Table"] or [menu:
"Table"->"Table Properties"]). Now you >> >> have the "Table
Format" control [<sigh> if only OO would normalize terminology],
with 5 tabs:
Table - Text Flow - Columns - Borders - Background
3. Go first to Table tab and, under Alignment, select any choice
but "Automatic" (which is Writer-speak for "Full-width").
4. Now go to Columns tab and tick "Adjust table width" - which
means "Adjust table width to sum of column widths". [Yes, this
should be under the Table tab - one of the many silly arrangements
in this control menu.]
(B) /Now/ you can set the columns as you like [which also addresses
your Problem 3, so I won't quote that here]. Yes, the process is a
bit clumsy, but you /can/ get there from here. ;-)
:-/
Using OOo is not realy intuitive!
No, it's not! - but the beauty of open-source is that we have some
better prospect of improving it that we have with, say, Word (which has
plenty of problems of its own).
Thanks, Greetings and nice Day/Evening
Best wishes for a better Monday. :-)
