I have given your project some thought and would like to make some
simple suggestions that may or may not help but should get you at least
part way to your goal.
My suggestion is to import your hymn file into Calc as a fixed field
file and set the columns where you want to break. e.g. column 1 is your
song number, column 2 the verses. You can then insert selected sections
into a slide.
Worth a try?
