If you're not getting anything at all from Windows 7, I don't think this is an OOo problem.
Windows itself is in trouble, perhaps from lack of resources, and OOo may be using enough of those
to tip it over the edge.

OK, let's try to pin this down. You have OOo open with a document in progress.
Your View options for Writer include the Status Bar, but there is no status line
showing an autosave in progress when you look at the document, and you cannot
actively do anything with the document. When you right-click on the taskbar
entry for the document, you get no menu with a "close" option for the document
nor any other menu. If you try to close the document using either the File>
Close option or the X in the top right corner, nothing whatsoever happens; the
screen stays exactly as it was, the File menu does not appear, and there is no
"not responding" message from Windows. Right?
