The reference to "using my current account" is confusing, since no account (other than the one with your ISP) is required to get OOo from the www.openoffice.org website. Did you double-click on the downloaded file, and follow the installation dialogs that then came up? If not, that would be your next step. Once installation is complete, you should have several ways to start the various parts of OOo. Assuming you are using some form of Windows, there should be an entry in your Start menu for OOo, with the various components (like Writer) in the group. Also, there is generally an icon that brings up a "splash page" with a button for each component, and possibly an icon in your taskbar for the QuickStarter, which also allows access to all the components. From within any of the components, the File > New option also lets you create a new document of any of the supported types. The new document will be named Untitled.odt for a text document, and similarly for the other types of files, until you save under a different name.

If this doesn't solve your problem, please give us more information, including what operating system and version you are using, the website you downloaded from, the name of the file you downloaded, the steps you take to try to create a new document, and what exactly you are seeing.

Please keep any responses on the [email protected] mailing list, so others
can help as needed.
