Yes, the lowest numeric value was the search criterion, achieved using
MIN, to get, in the above example, the number two.  Based on that, I
wanted the another cell to contain the creature associated with that
value.  In this case, cat.

Yes, I'm now aware of that, but for my purposes, that isn't an issue;
First matching object will suffice.

Once again guys, thanks very much for all your assistance, it's given me
a much better understanding of Calc an its workings.
