The .rtf operations are not really particularly good at retaining formatting; the difficulty here may be related to how styles at various levels are handled. If you don't explicitly need that format, you'd be better off with .odt, .doc, or even exporting to PDF if the recipients don't need edit capability.

BTW, please keep all discussion on the list ([email protected]) so others can help as needed, and use plain text only. Messages with graphics can take up a lot of bandwidth, which can be a real issue for some of the list subscribers.
