Hello Carlo,

Hi Everyone,
this is my first TDF post! :-)
I'm an active and long time OpenSuSE and Novell's OOo user and bug
poster, too!
Now, in my OpenSuSE daily updated 11.2, x86-64, notebook I have
Novell/OpenSuSE OBS OOo 3.2.1.6 (x86-64) (still with the famous fixed
but not released pdf bug
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=615812).
Now I want to install both:
- Libò 3.3>= beta2 and
- OBS (OpenSuSE Build Service, *ubuntu's Launch Pad analog) OOo>
3.2.1.6 and/or becoming 3.3
This because:
- on October the 23th I will participate as OOo/Libò/TDF speaker in
Padua's (Italy's NE) Linux Day (in the Padua's FSUG kind People group);
- I want to start my soft migration from OOo to... Libò, obviously!!! ;-)
so why do you CC [email protected] ?
please explain, I can not understand you
I'm sure you could! ;-)
But I have no problems to explain why.
I think the
[discuss] Oracle dropping OO.org and joining the community...
thread well explain my position.
People could find it here
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?list=discuss&by=thread&from=2419772
I love this Zaphod Feeblejocks' sentence:
"
[cut]
There's nothing to stop you joining the community and still having your
own flavour of this great package.
[cut]
"
So I have cc'ed to show people that many (active) users (one more, me)
are migrating to Community Based OOo (= Libò) and give Oracle my two
cents in the XXI century's new paradigm!
From Umbrella (= Sun, Oracle, mamma's one, mother's one, ...) Culture
to Mixing Bowl Culture
http://www.italovignoli.net/html/tdf-innovation.html
Italo is a friend of mine. We share many view points.
It's a long time (many months) that I said to my OOo friends and groups
that OPTs (Office Productivity Tools, that OOo is) are Human Being
rights none could bring out.
They are instruments by which people communicate one another all over
the world.
Moreover if they are yielding Open Document Files!!!
Communication has to be free:
- by all protocols;
- by all instruments;
- by all formats (not only office ones, also multimedia (audio, video,
music notation and so on), graphical (2D and 3D), think DWG vs. Collada,
next goal, Autodesk: is now time to open, too)
If you come in Italy and want to read a Middle Age ancient book, you
could, nut if you have some old backup or some dead software's data: how
do you read it if you don't know the format or you have not the source code?
I have written many time in this list, but always less in the future, I
suppose.
I think Oracle see Sun's product only to enhance his business. It's ok,
but some "products" are More and this thing cannot be changed.
Moreover I think efforts are to be unitary (all together, come on!) and
not spread and wasted any more...
Finally, I see that many community's members are high degree people (I'm
a computer engineer with 20 years experience) in many human culture
sides, matters, subjects, topics and I'm sure they want to give their
contribute to the whole Humanity forever, in primis/in first instance,
without the risk to stop this big world fundamental "tool" that OOo/Libò
is (are?).
Today's next step contains some similar ideas
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/TDF/Next_Decade_Manifesto
My two questions are:
1. May OOo 3.2.1.x/3.3.x and Libò coexist (in the same operating system
instance, I mean)? At least in linux? May I go on with just downloaded
Libò x86-64 beta2?
I guess this might work with forks too
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Run_OOo_versions_parallel
Thank you Ariel, I'll try as soon as possible and than I'll give back
results.
2. When does Novell/OpenSuSE start to build Libò in his (our!) OBS? I
mean here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/
or here
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Office:/ (in a new
"LibreOffice" directory)
or here, too
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/ (in a new
"LibreOffice" directory)?
To search in the OBS you could go here (The Famous Webpin page)
http://packages.opensuse-community.org/
It's now time for Novell and OpenSuSE whole Community to start giving
solid/concrete Libò/TDF support signs! :-)
be sure they started already:
by reading
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice/2010-September/000002.html
Present: Thorsten, Caolan, Rene, Michael
Invited: Petr, Fridrich
I count in LO's technical group 5 developers from Novell and 1 from RedHat.
Regards
I have seen, thank you, but I want to touch the signs with my fingers!
So I'll wait Petr Mladek's answer:
http://www.documentfoundation.org/lists/discuss/msg01354.html
Have a nice evening,
Carlo
