When I installed the latest version[s] of OOo on my Vista system I make sure that the Load/Save settings are checked. Then it works. When I have an MSO update downloaded and installed then It resets the .doc files back to Word. I do the Load/Save settings in OOo and then .doc goes back to OOo. It works for me, so if you tell me that it does not work that way, then I wonder why it worked for me each time I do that.
