Hello Laura,

There were -or still are- problems with OOo and a new version of Java
(that you may have downloaded with a Mac OS X update).

Have you thrown out all OOo files when you uninstalled? There is the
folder in Applications (Programs), but also one in Library >
Application Support > OpenOffice.org.
You may not want to throw away all this Application Support (there's
your autotext, templates etc there - if you used these) - you can try
to keep these by giving this folder another name.

Once all traces of OOo are gone, you can download the most recent
version for your type of Mac (Intel or PPC) and see what happens...
I propose that you download and install OOo 3.3.0 release candidate 7,
which will be almost identical to the final version of OOo 3.3.0. In
this version, all Java troublres should be over.
