Tanya,

Since you talk about the Dock, I suppose you're on a Mac.
As Sigrid asked: did you do any update of your Mac OS or of OpenOffice.org?

Normally, all programs are in the Programs or Applications folder.
Open your Finder (first icon in the Dock) and click in the left on
Programs or Applications. In that folder you should find
OpenOffice.org. You can drag the icon from this folder to your Dock to
make the program again accessible again from the Dock.

Files on your Desktop should disappear just like that... Do you know
any of the filenames? Maybe you can do a search (put the name in the
space at the top right of a Finder window, or use Spotlight (the
magnifying glass top right on your Mac screen).
