It has everything to do with it (JMF). Search the archives for JMF &
you'll find that standard OOo is a PITA when it comes to JMF and video.

Do yourself a favor and check to see if your distro (which one is it
BTW?) uses gstreamer and/or is a go-oo/novell flavour of OOo. IMO it is
not worth going through the hassle of installing JMF. And further, JMF
hasn't been updated for years.
