  I had tried that with no success.

  As I believe I stated in the thread opener, I have decided to
  seriously "study" some of the fundamentals of OO. 
  
  On page 45 of the "Formatting Pages Document" found at
  
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOo3_User_Guides/Chapters
  under "Numbering the first page something other than 1", there are
  instructions that seem (with some quirks) to - so far - work for
  me.
