I don't know if you solved it yet, but there is an easy way to eliminate that
' character from the spreadsheet.
Insert a new column next to the one you want to work with and use the
"=value()" command.
For example: in column A cell 1 you have '2346, in column cell 1 enter:
=value(A1)
This will copy only the numbers from that cell.

This worked fine for me and I hope it will be useful for others.
