Dear Kathe:
Let your friend try Thunderbird with the Lightning plug-in. This will
add a calendar anda to do list to Thunderbird's email. Thunderbird will
also handle the newsgroups (AKA usenet or NNTP) as well as RSS (AKA Real
Simple Syndication) It is also open source and cross-platform.
I azm currently using this on my Laptop running Fedora 13 (32bit) but
also use it in the Win XP (32bit) platform.
I then export the addreess book and can load that into the other copies.
Added to that, I have programmed a set of rules to take cars of most of
the automated message handling.
Tier 1 first reports suspected scams or criminal activity.
Tier 2 deletes the sales pests. It also deletes any accidentlally
recirculating messages, to add to the "garbage control"|.
In tiers 1 & 2, messages to be deleted arew deleted from the POP server,
then deleted locally to reduce unwanted recirculation.
Tier 3 files messages to be kept, but not to be read immediately..
Tier 4 then dumps old messages older that a certain date (usually a
couple of months prior.)
These are set to run automatically on download oin the all mail folder
of my IMAP Google account.
Result: In the morning, I start the email download, run the rules and go
for breakfast. It is not uncommon for the downloaded list to have over
600 messages to be managed in this way, and several hundred more each a
couple mopre times in the day.
Now I'd say that's email "Thuinder with Thunder!"

I am retired and do not use the 'office' programs, seems for my needs email is
sufficient along with spread sheets. A friend needed a calendar and scheduling.
Told her I'd make one using a database program.
After opening MS Works I saw their calendar program, everything she needed.
Now the program.
She does not have MSWorks. I figured OpenOffice should have a few little
starter templates also. If memory does not fail, I thought Google started
OpenOffice, if msworks can create their little calendar/appointment program,
THEN GOOGLE should be able to 'easily' make a much better one.
Guess you figured out I am not a ms fan.
Searched calendar in help, index there was no calendar listing.
Please tell me what Google programs are available that would show a month at a
time with the doctor's appointments listed on the daily square with the time,
address, phone number, etc. My friend is responsible for the scheduling of
Dr. appointments and tests for the bus driver, at this small assisted living
facility.
Thank you
