It would seem that when your were doing your forms you turned on the girds. If the Form Design toolbar is not showing at the bottom of the Writer window activate it then look for the Display Gird icon, it will show up when hovered on. Click it to turn off the grid. As for a book, the best can be found for free at [1], just look for the 3.2 version. If your wanting to buy a book then you maybe out of luck for v3.2.
